Uptick simply means an increase in price. Any financial security, when moving up in terms of price, as compared to its last or previous price, is said to be in an ‘Uptick’ or on an upward movement. A transaction which is closed at the same price as the previous one is known to be concluded at zero Uptick. If transactions are completed at a higher volume at a rising price as compared with the previous ones, it is called Uptick Volume. Conversely, when prices start going down as compared to the immediate last price, the security is said to be in a ‘Downturn’.
