Opening Bell:

SGX Nifty is up by 65.5 points in the early morning trade, indicating a positive opening for Indian stock market.

Stocks opened under pressure in Asia on Thursday after US shares declined and Treasuries flashed warning signs of the risk of recession. The Japanese Nikkei is up by 1.22 percent. South Korea’s Kospi is up by 0.59 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is up by 0.1 percent in the early morning trades.

S&P 500 ended higher on Thursday, snapping a five-session losing streak, as investors interpreted data showing a rise in weekly jobless claims as a sign the pace of interest rate hikes could soon slow. S&P 500 lost gained 0.75 percent whereas Nasdaq composite added 1.13 percent.

?One 97 Communications Limited, the parent entity of Vijay Shekhar Sharma-promoted Paytm, will hold a board meet on December 13 to consider a proposal for a share buyback, the fintech major disclosed to the exchanges on December 8.

?HUL has entered into definitive documents to acquire 19.8% shareholding of Nutritionalab. This is a strategic investment by the company to enter the health and wellbeing category. The transaction cost is Rs 70 crore.

?Promoter Dhruv Manmohan Sawhney has offloaded 1.7 crore shares or 7% stake in Triveni Engineering via open market transactions. However, Goel Anil Kumar acquired additional 18 lakh shares in the company. Societe Generale bought 14.73 lakh shares and Plutus Wealth Management LLP purchased 40 lakh shares at same price.

?Adani Enterprises has acquired 100% stake in Alluvial Mineral Resources, from Adani Infra (India). Alluvial Mineral Resources is engaged in mining of minerals and ores and other allied activities.

?Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have net sold shares worth Rs 1,131.67 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought shares worth Rs 772.29 crore on December 8, as per provisional data available on the NSE.

  • The number of Americans filing claims for jobless benefits increased moderately last week, while unemployment rolls hit a 10-month high toward the end of November.
  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will launch India’s first-ever surety bonds insurance product on December 19 to boost liquidity in the infrastructure sector, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday.
  • The ban imposed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on short-term loan securitisation will hit the industry, especially gold and personal loan segments as also microfinance borrowing, three rating agencies said in separate notes.
  • Slightly more Americans filed for jobless claims last week but the labor market remains one of strongest parts of the U.S. economy.
