Listed stocks are stocks which are included and traded on a recognised stock exchange. In order to get their stocks ‘listed’ on stock exchanges in India, companies go through the IPO (Initial Public Offer) process. Listed stocks can start trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which are governed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) guidelines. Listed stocks are stocks of companies which are ‘public’ and there are certain rules with respect to transparency, quarterly result updates etc which they need to comply with.
Some key features of listed stocks are:
1. Listed stocks are owned by several shareholders
2. These are regulated by SEBI
3. They are more liquid and traded between buyers and sellers freely on stock exchanges
4. Prices of listed stocks are volatile and affected by demand and supply, liquidity and other factors
