Asset Management Company (AMC)

An asset management company (AMC) is a financial company that collects a pool of capital from investors and invests in various asset classes on behalf of investors. AMCs are known as money management companies.

Some of the Top AMCs in India include: SBI mutual fund, HDFC mutual fund, ICICI prudential mutual fund, Nippon India mutual fund, Axis mutual fund, etc

How are AMCs categorised in India

Asset management companies in India are broadly categorised into three types:
a. bank-sponsored mutual funds,
b. mutual fund institutions, and
c. private sector mutual funds.
There are about 44 AMCs in India, out of which 35 belong to the private sector. In India, all the asset management companies need to be registered with Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
